TNEA 2013 Counselling Procedure – Will be in the order of merit and community reservation

Candidates will be called for TNEA 2013 counselling in the order of their merit. Based on the merit and communal reservation, allotment of the branch/college chosen by the candidate will be made. Candidates have  to opt for colleges and branches that are available at the time of counselling.

How TNEA 2013 Rank list / merit list prepared?

For the conduct of of TNEA 2013 Counselling Rank list / Merit list will be prepared based on cut-off mark of each student applied for Tamilnadu Engineering Admissions 2013.

Prescribed Subjects for calculating cut-off marks of TNEA 2013 admission are Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics.

Step 1: The marks scored in Mathematics (the subject for which maximum mark is 200) should be divided by 2. For example if a candidate scores 195 marks in Maths then his / her cut-off mark of this subject will be 97.5 (ie. 195/2)

Step 2: The marks scored in Chemistry and Physics are to be divided by 4. For example if a candidate scores 190 and 195 marks in Physics and Chemistry respectively then his / her cut-off marks in these subjects will be 47.5 and 48.75 respectively (ie. 190/4 and 195/4)

Step 3: Now add the above calculated cut-off marks in Mathematics, Physics and chemistry. This would give a final cut-off mark for a student which is also called as Marks scored in prescribed subjects reduced to 200. For example the final cut-off mark from subject wise cut-off marks calculated in step 1 and 2 will be 193.75 (97.5+47.5+48.75)

Once cut-off mark of each applicant is arrived at the same will be arranged in the manner such that the student who has secured more cut-off mark will be placed above the student who has secured less. Separate Rank list / merit list will be prepared in this manner for each community provided under Community Reservation procedure (Click here for TNEA 2013 Community Reservation details)

What if same cut-off mark has been scored by more than one applicant?

In cases where more than one candidate have got the same cut-off mark in the common merit list, the inter-se-merit among such candidates shall be determined in the order of priority as specified below.

(1) Percentage of mark in Mathematics,

(2) Percentage of mark in Physics,

(3) Percentage of mark in the Fourth optional subject,

(4) Date of Birth (elder will be given preference) &

(5) Random number assigned (higher value will be given preference).

Use of Random Number for preparation of Rank list will be very minimal as any one of the crieteria viz., (1) Percentage of mark in Mathematics, (2) Percentage of mark in Physics, (3) Percentage of mark in the Fourth optional subject, and (4) Date of Birth (elder will be given preference) would surely differentiate the students for the purpose of rank list though they have scored same cut-off mark.

Last year also out of total apppliations which is more than 1.5 lakh for TNEA 2012, only 16 candidates were ranked based on Random Numbers since they had secured same cut-off mark as well as they could not be ranked based on previous 4 criteria viz., 1)Percentage of mark in Mathematics, (2) Percentage of mark in Physics, (3) Percentageof mark in the Fourth optional subject, and (4) Date of Birth (elder will be given preference) since they had scored same marks for the purpose of Criteria 1 to 3 and also born on the same day
